After a tooth extraction (rear back top right - cracked root) five years ago, all double top teeth still hurt. I had lots of pain in a rear top left tooth. Again the root was cracked and tooth extracted. The teeth roots' seem red hot and as though there are stinging nettles in the gums. On occasions my cheek bones painfully ache. My lips also tingle. Although it is not painful to eat, seconds after finishing eating this sensation is heightened. I have taken various medication (gabapentin etc}, had numerous kinds of x ray and have been told my teeth are ok. Six weeks ago I had the top back (left) tooth removed as the pain was very bad in that tooth. The dentist said the tooth was ok. I still have the pain and sensation in that site. I have had regular appointments at a Dental Hospital, the Consultant has now told me there is nothing he can do. Please Please is there anyone out there that can help. I'm now finding it difficult to cope.

Joan. I don't feel that I do. The way my teeth are I know I don't put them together and squeeze them. I can't hardly stand for them to touch. If I run my fingernail across them or tap them it hurts. I had a sleep study done to see if I grind I grind d my teeth which I didn't. I keep thinking dental problems be cause my teeth hurt. But I have other facial pain st times also. My eyes and I to my nose was hurting today. My GP thinks it's neurological. I have been treated with carbamazepine, Oxycarbzepine, lamatrogine, baclofen, cymbalta depression medicine and a few more things and nothing g had given .e any relief. My teeth have hurt the same no matter what. I am at a loss and getting g more depressed by the day.

Sorry for your suffering Joan. Although our problems don't sound exactly the same ( I wish they did ) it is a hell of a thing to go through. I just turned 73. This November will be three years I have been having my problems. Right now I am at a stand still as to what to do. I still don't know if it is something dental or neurological. Of the three neurologist I have been to one said dental, one treated me for trigeminal neuralgia and one said he didn't know what is wrong. The dentist I gave been to don't know. The xrays don't show anything. I thank goodness I can sleep. They can really be hurting but one I get in bed I can go got sleep. I do thank the dentist and other people commenting. I know some of them don't agree with each other but I know that's to be expected. Keep posting. I am trying to decide what to do next.

It is 5 years gone June for me. I have been to several specialist dentists, ENT and neurologists. I have had acupuncture and lots of drugs. Like you it feels very much a dental issue. The sensations are various from burning, tingling in the teeth and gums along with aching cheek bones. My gums react to certain foods and drinks and feel very sore constantly. Sometimes shooting pains. I have a splint to wear during the night - the pressure from this seems to ease the symptoms. The dental consultant feels it is nerve damage from a tooth extraction although no drugs have worked. Nothing has shown on the x rays and I have had many. I had a tooth removed because it was so painful I was convinced something was wrong with it that wasn't visible on the x ray. It was fine. My other top double teeth feel the same but obviously I am reluctant to do anything about it. I am waiting for an appointment for a cone beam scan to see if this can shed any light on the problem

You seem to have it worse than me. I am in constant discomfort. I can tell my teeth are moving. Every so often I can feel sensation in my sinuses.

I would like to compare notes with others to see if we may be doing something to exasperate our problem.

you seem to have more severe symptoms than me. My symptoms are exaggerated when I drink coffee and when I change altitude. We live in the mountains so my altitude changes by 2000 feet when I drive. I think my jaw is forcing all of my top teeth to move. I am going to discuss my conclusion with my dentist next week.

Sorry I haven't replied. Cold or hot doesn't seem to bother me that much. When all this first started I had and still do have pain in my teeth and it felt like my bite changed or teeth moved. I had the dentist grind some on my teeth which I probably shouldn't have but I did. Sometime I do feel like my bite does change. I don't believe I clench my teeth or grind my teeth at night. When I first wake up in the morning that's when .y teeth fell the best. After I get up as soon as I really put them together like to swallow they start bothering me. One of the dentist wanted me to go to a tmj specialist. I have been told by everyone I have been to I don't have tmj. The dentist suggested wants 750.00 for a consultation. My gp says neurological . Like I said I have been treated with the anticonvulsants, muscle relaxers antiviral and other things

My teeth feel fairly well in the morning then as the day goes on they get worse. Also my teeth touch when I don't plan for them to. Sort of like a involuntarybottom jaw movement .. also trembles some .I have told all the doctors and dentist this. I will keep adding symptoms.

I am having the exact same symptoms. I think my problem is that my bottom teeth are moving my upper teeth when I clench and when I swallow. If I run or bicycle, I keep my mouth opened to get air. My teeth feel better during this time. I am also sensitive to altitude change. If traveling by car in the mountains, my teeth will tingle much more. I will keep adding symptoms too

I am consciously trying to keep my teeth apart. I have asked friends if their bottom teeth touch their top teeth when their mouth is closed. They say their teeth don’t touch. Mine do. I know for fact that at least one of my teeth has moved. I can feel it with my tongue. I also notice that my tongue is constantly pushing against my upper teeth. I am trying to stop that too. If I lie flat on my back with my mouth wide open, I feel better.
Let’s keep communicating about symptoms as we think of them. It’s 6:00 am here my teeth feel ok but I am about to get coffee!

Roberts. I am going to type until my hands give out. My problems started in November of 2016. I was doing fine . Not having any problems. I went to the dentist for a six month cleaning. Nothing else. I also had a fluoride treatment which I had never done before. Two weeks later all my teeth were hurting. I called the dentist and told them. They made me wait another week or so and I went back in. Siad they couldn't see anything wrong and gave me a week of amoxicillin. Didn't do any good. By the first part of January apparently my teeth or jaw moved or something. My teeth started hitting or touching different. Hurting me. I went to another dentist and he started adjusting my teeth. My four front top teeth were and still are the worse. Three of them have crowns and one a root canal. He said they look fine as all the rest of the dentist I have been to.
I like you try to keep my teeth from touching unless I swallow. Sometime I feel like they just touch or come together when I don''t want them to. I do feel better laying in bed also. SOmetime I wear a over the counter mouth guard. Just to keep my teeth apart. It is super thin and fits better than any of the ones the dentist made. It is soft material. I have actually thought about wearing it during the day but haven't. I know my teeth are far from perfect. I am missing two. Both jaw teeth and the top back right the crown came off and it feels better with it off.
Back about six years ago I started having trouble with the tip of my tongue burning. Then my lips started burning. Went to the ent. Said he could see nothing wrong. It kept on and I went to specialist and so forth with no relief. Ended up going to a pain management type doctor. While going to him I started having pain in my right eye and pain in my eyebrows and temples. He said it was some type of neuralgia which I learned later he put trigeminal neuralgia in my chart. That is what he treated me for. Carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, and a few more. Treated me for about 8 months and I was no better and the medicine was killing me. I told him I wanted off everything. I got off of it and in a couple of months I got better. I did fine for about two years before this teeth thing started. I actually went back to him and he just said it was a continuation of what I did have but whatever he treated me for he didn't fix or help me so basically I have been labeled with trigeminal neuralgia. The dentist can't see anything but I still feel like it is dental. Lets keep talking.

John, you definitely have a broader range of symptoms than me. My issue started around the same time as your. I noticed my bottom teeth were touching my top teeth when my jaw was shut. It was causing pain. I worked for weeks on moving my jaw back in my mouth and my teeth stopped touching. But they were sensitive so my young would push on them. I wore a mouth guard made by the dentist but it hurt my teeth worse. I wore it both day and night. My dentist thought I was grinding my teeth at night but I know I don’t grind them. Like you, my teeth feel best in the morning.

I think my back four teeth on the bottom are pushing against the back teeth on the top and moving my top teeth forward. This has caused one of my top teeth to go behind my front tooth. I can actually feel the overlap now. My top teeth used to be perfect. I did not wear braces but I am beginning to think that the pain I feel is the same as someone who is wearing braces and who’s teeth are moving.

I question wearing a retainer again before I train myself not to clench my teeth. I feel the entire retainer will move from the pressure I am exerting on my top teeth and continue to cause my teeth to shift. I will talk to a dentist about my thoughts early next year.

I have had x-Rays and a cat scan.

I chipped my tooth recently (the one that shifted behind my front tooth) when I was chewing food. My bottom tooth was directly beneath my tooth it was a terrible collision

Let’s keep brainstorming

Robert.my font teeth touch all the time. I have told all the dentist this. I never noticed if they did or not before I started having trouble. I amuse my jaw teeth don't touch like they should but I never had any trouble. And I don't feel like it would cause trouble basically overnight. I have talked to the dentist I have been to about my bite and they say it would cause my teeth to hurt like this. I like you so.eti.es it does feel better when I am eating g
Something soft though. Also like you they feel better when I wake up. I can put them together in the bed and they feel pretty good but as the day goes on they bother me more and more. I think I am going to have to get back on some kind of antidepressant.
Tried it once and got off of it. This is really starting to bother me. I guess just fact that no one can tell me what's wrong. Did your dentist tell you anything? I don't know if I should try another neurologist or not. My gp says neurological. Let's keep talking and maybe someone will chime in also.

If anyone is still reading this and had a diagnosis of atypical odontalgia please post. I'd love to here if you found relief and also if you had pain in the tooth if you tapped or chewed on it?
