Hi,
My name is Beth and over the last year I’ve had one wisdom tooth coming in on top left-side of my jaw. This was surprising tbh as I received 4.5 years of orthodontist treatment with traditional braces where I was informed that I have small mouth for the size and amount of teeth I have but that they couldn’t see any wisdom teeth! Anyway fast forward 6 years here I am with one wisdom tooth making its way out!
Other than some general tender-ness I’ve not had any real issues with the wisdom tooth. In addition, in late July-August I received treatment from a dentist for other issues where I asked about the wisdom tooth and the dentist confirmed the wisdom tooth looked fine.
In the last couple of days I’ve been having increasingly intense pain in my a my left cheek. The wisdom tooth, to the touch feels like it’s fully crowded out of the gum but it’s notably higher and not inline with the rest of my teeth. Due to this placement the sharp edge of the tooth is now wearing away at the side of my cheek. This has caused great pain and bleeding to my cheek, I’ve started using braces wax to cover the shaper tooth point as much as I can which is helping alongside general pain medication. However I’m struggling now to open my mouth or chew without pain. I have booked a check up with my dentist but it’s not for 2 weeks and I wanna some perspective of if this pain is likely to subside or any other recommendations on temporary action I can take.
In addition, any perspective on what the dentist may recommend as a solution? I don’t love the idea of removing the tooth if I can avoid it but not sure what other options there are unless the tooth moves quickly - thanks, Bethany.
