Please forgive me as I'm pretty upset and am most likely confusing some details here,
My wife has pretty bad genetics when it comes to teeth (low enamel) and has had braces twice in the past. She brushes 2-3x per day and is a healthy 33 y/o woman. She has had extensive work done on her teeth in the last year or so (filling, and as stated, five root canals). It seems that every time she has a cavity filled, she ends up needing a root canal. She switched dentists about a year ago, and the new one told her that she was "subjected to bad dentistry for some time." She has been seeing an endodontist now as well, who postulated that maybe post-procedural swelling is causing the root to die. She had a crown placed about two weeks ago and has pain in this tooth now. She is afraid she's going to need a sixth root canal.
Is this normal? Does anyone have any insight into what might be going on? Are there super-specialists in this area? One endo suggested medrol dosepack after a procedure to hopefully stem the tide, but she ended up not needing to take it. I'd like for her to not have to take a steroid after every procedure as well.
