Trismus after wisdom tooth surgery

I am 10 days post op, the area has healed really well and i’ve had a pretty smooth recovery in terms of pain and swelling. However, from day 2 of recovery I noticed that certain movements when talking and trying to eat would cause my joint to click and my bottom jaw to move to the side causing me to bite my tongue. Since then this has happened sporadically at random times when talking and eating, I’d say it happens 2-3 times a day (only because i’m being cautious, i feel like it would happen way more if i wasn’t) I’m also suffering from trismus, I can only open my jaw up to 2 fingers which is a tight fit. This is making me really anxious. I’ve been using moist heat, doing stretches taking anti inflammatories but I don’t seem to be making any progress.

Continue taking anti inflammatories as prescribed by your healthcare provider; these can help reduce swelling and discomfort. If symptoms persist beyond a few weeks post-op, consider discussing a referral for physical therapy specializing in TMJ disorders with your healthcare provider. It is important to keep an open line of communication with your surgeon or dentist regarding these symptoms. Some degree of discomfort and unusual sensations post-surgery is common, persistent symptoms like yours warrant close monitoring and possibly further intervention from healthcare professionals specializing in oral health recovery.
