Should my dentist have picked up on my gum recession?

I have gum recession on the bottom due to improper brushing. Went to the dentist recently and was told I didn't have gum disease, but nothing was mentioned regarding gum recession? She told me I had quite inflamed gums, for which I've been for a cleaning since.

If you are worried about gum recession, and your dentist did not pick this up, go for a second opinion at another dentist, or see a specialist periodontist, who is specialized in gum related issues.
