Root fused to jaw bone

Hi, I have just had a tooth removed but it broke leaving part of the root still there. After an X-ray my dentist said the root has fused to my jawbone so he couldn’t get it out. I’ve now been referred to an nhs dental surgery to have it removed but I’ve been told it could take up to a year to get an appointment.
Is it ok to leave the root in indefinitely?
Will the gum heal over the root and will the pain go away? Or should I try go private and get it removed sooner?

Did the dentist prescribe you any medicine? A lot of times, you can take some antibiotics to prevent any complications and then the tooth will be fine until your appointment.
The gum will grow over the piece of tooth.
