Root Canal Post & Core Question

An old root canal tooth cracked top furthest left incisor and the dentist said although the root is good , not enough tooth left for another crown to be fitted. She then filed what tooth was left to gum level and left the root canal in to help support the bone advising me to have an implant. I advised i couldn't afford an implant at the moment so possibly thinking of having a bridge. While waiting for my next appointment I have seen online Post & Core which the dentist didn't mention I'm just wondering whether now the tooth is at gum line this would be an option while waiting and saving for an implant rather than having the bridge and affecting adjacent teeth. This was NHS dentist in UK
. Many thanks in advance for any advice

If an incisor is at gumline, then a post and core (cast or pre-made) would have a poor chance of success. Sometimes I've put in a simple post and then built up with composite as an interim measure and for a reaonable price, but making a ceramic crown would be a waste of money.
