Partially Avulsed Tooth, Delaying Root Canal?

I had a avulsed tooth where my Right #8 got completely knocked out of it socket up into mu gum. The tooth stayed in my gum for 7 hours and then the dentist x rayed it and put it back in the socket and splinted it. He said the front bone plate was pushed up and out and fractured, as was the tooth, and that the nerve and blood vessels were severed. He wrote a [prescription for me to go to another clinic and have a root canal performed.

It has been 8 days now. I am hoping some blood vessels will grow back...
Questions
1) Is it 100% certain I will need root canal.
2) How many days can I wait ?
3) Is the prognosis better if it is done very soon rather than waiting a few weeks?

I have photos.
