New decay or a badly done tooth?

I took my 5-year-old son to the dentist because he had decay in one of his teeth. A filling was done, but a few days ago, while brushing, I noticed that it looks strange. Does it seem like the filling was done poorly, or does it appear to be new decay? (One month has passed since the visit; it seems like too short a time for a new cavity to develop, doesn't it?)
The first picture shows a filling now, while the second one depicts a tooth before the filling is placed, a month ago.
