Recently had problem with loose upper teeth. After few additions to existing partial plate it was suggested all be removed and a full denture suggested. My dental plan showed upper full denture would cost me $500. However, dentist told me my responsibility would be $995. When I questioned this he said he only uses valplax. Okay, who am I to question.
Anyway this upper denture has never fit right and will
not stay in my mouth without adhesive. I now come to learn valplax cannot be repaired if need be and it will discolor. I am reluctant to see another dentist, I am embarrassed by the appearance and the adhesive I have to use but I do need cleaning and work done on bottom teeth. What should I do? I no longer trust my dentist. Also, should this be reported to the dental plan?

You are more than welcome to see another dentist if you feel uncomfortable. It sounds like the dentist did not explain the procedure thoroughly. What you received is called an immediate denture. With an immediate denture, the planning is a bit limited, since the technician has to plan around the fact that you still have your own teeth in your mouth. Sometimes this might mean that the bite is not correct or the fit might not be accurate. This has to be adjusted then after the extractions have been done.
After you lose teeth, you also then start losing bone. The denture gradually becomes more and more loose, and after 6 months, we do a reline on the denture, where plastic is added in order to increase the fit of the denture.
This cannot be done on a valplax denture. The dentist should have mentioned that a valplax denture cannot be adjusted.

Consult another dentist about both the fit of your upper denture and any necessary work on your lower teeth. Inquire about alternative materials for dentures that may offer better durability and aesthetics. Contact your dental plan provider regarding any discrepancies in costs. Schedule an appointment for cleaning and maintenance of all teeth as soon as possible. taking these steps, you can regain control over your dental health and make informed decisions moving forward.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Disappointed he didn't tell me the denture could never be adjusted. I sat in reception area and googled for info on valplax. Had I known in advance I would have opted for different option. Thanks again!
