Dentist nicks tongue with drill every time I've seen him?

I've gone to a new dentist to get a crown placed on a root canal tooth. Both times I have seen him now, he has nicked my tongue with the drill. He keeps saying the tooth is difficult to work on because of its location at the back of the mouth (#18). It s not a deep cut, not bleeding but it hurts for at least a week afterward and I am diabetic so I don't heal fast. Is there anything he can do to protect my tongue in the future? This has not happened to me ever before with any dentist.

Teeth at the back can be very difficult to work on, especially if you need to do a crown prep and need to make sure that the prep is done well. Perhaps mention this to the dentist and mention that it takes a while to heal. His assistant can be more vigilant in order to try and protect your tongue when he is drilling.
