Dental pain - remove adjacent tooth?

I'm in severe pain from my upper second molar. I saw my dentist who x-rayed it and said the tooth is a picture of health with no reason to explain my pain. He wanted to remove my wisdom tooth behind it, which is over-erupted and he said could be causing me to grind.

The pain is severe and feels like nerve based pain, rather than what I'd expect from grinding. It wasn't so bad for a couple of days on painkillers and antibiotics, but its now like a 10/10 and I'm going out of my mind with pain. I'm going to see my dentist again on Friday and I'm tempted to just let him remove the wisdom tooth to see if it helps? Does this sound reasonable? Should I be asking him to take out (or do a root canal) on the tooth thats causing the pain?

Do you perhaps have an x-ray that you could share? If the wisdom is indeed over-erupted, it might be a good idea to remove it anyway, to prevent future problems.

Difficult to give an opinion without seeing an x-ray. Could be an adjacent tooth or opposing tooth, or sometimes it could even be a sinus infection. Would need more information here to comment.
