Asking help, Help me please

I had a dentist a few years ago that insisted that my old fillings be replaced with composite but not all were replaced due to lack of time and money as well. Now every few months my upper left back teeth have indescribable pain that no medication can help. My current dentist can find no problems. My neurologist called it something that I can't remember. It feels like pain shooting up into my head and it sucks. I just want to ask some help or medical advice in my situation right now. Thanks

hi!
sometimes due to high dental fillings our tooth gets compressed downwards and is subjected to a lot more pressure. When the periodontal ligament widens and gets larger it tends to become red and inflamed. That creates pain when you have a high filling.

if the composite material is not placed correctly in the tooth and especially in the case of a composite filling then it will shrink to result in a gap that goes on to form around the filling. It could even pull the tooth together. This will further result in the tooth becoming sensitive to hot and cold.

what you need to do is to remove the thing that causes pain. The moment you feel any kind of pain in your tooth the first thing that you should think of is calling the dentist. If you find that the pain persists then you need to ask your dentist to check the bite. This will allow you to be able to ensure that the filling is of the right size. If not then the filling will be ground down to the right size.

Hi jpsmith,

Thanks for your post. I am about to get all my teeth done (2 bridges, 20 crowns) mainly for cosmetic reasons as my teeth have always looked very bad (uneven) as well as the fact that I had lots of work started but not much ever finished!
Now, I finally have the funds to address this issue professionally and completely.

I am in good hands altogether but I find it difficult to make decision around the 'shape' and the overall "how-do-I-want-it-to-look-like" issue. My dentist will offer me a mock version of the final product to check and review, etc. However, are there any "rules" or self checks to ensure that the outcome is looking good (not too Hollywood style), is comfortable (my original front teeth are quite narrow, will the crowns make them large and chunky?) and generally "fitting" my persona???

One very good tip I got from an article was that one should match the colour of the new teeth with the white of the eyes (or at least not have a whiter shade!).

Anything you say to your clients to consider before going through a massive transformation?

Many thanks in advance.

Chipped teeth... What can be done?

I have an underbite and my dentist said it'd be "pointless" to fix my chipped
Teeth without having the surgery for my bite first. She told me vaneers would just chip. If this is true is there another alternative? Surgery is going to be a long while down the road... What about dental contouring? Epoxy... Anything :(

I would personally opt for porcelain crowns on those two front teeth, they will last a great deal longer if not indefinitely.

Hey Yaiie, it depends on which tooth it is and how badly it is chipped. If your tooth is chipped or broken, then see your dentist as soon as possible. They can fix it right up. Nothing to worry about.

Dental veneers are a great way to improve the color and shape of a tooth; however, if the tooth is a good shape, then whitening should suffice in improving color. Does that help, Yaiie?
