I’ve been waiting for two weeks for my appointment, and it’s Monday morning. i can’t open my mouth wide enough to use a spoon from the spasms. My lower jaw is very swollen. Finished antibiotics two days ago. No one seems concerned. I called my general dentist on Wednesday about the increased pain, swelling, and inability to open mouth to eat and the receptionist keeps saying we’ll call you back. Will this be a problem?

Not opening wide can be difficult for a dentist to perform a root canal procedure. Be sure to make it to your dental appointment and have your dentist examine you. If your root anatomy is long, the dentist will have to use a longer instrument to fully clean. That means you have to open extra wide to accommodate the longer instrument.
