My root canaled # 4 is the front of a bridge. It is broke and has been deemed unrepairable. The only discomfort I am experiencing is when and if I bite down hard. The bacteria within the broken area began to infect about a month and a half ago. I know #4 must come out as a result of seeing a specialist with the hope of an apicoectomy, since unrealized. Problem is.., communication between dentist, specialist an me broke down and I am now faced with a time problem. My dentist wants to perform the extraction 9 days prior to me leaving on a weeks vacation to Mexico at an all-inclusive resort. Are there any serious risks to delay the extraction until my return? With flying? Can the infection be controled with any other antibiotic other than amoxicillin, as I am just finishing a regimen?
Thanks so much for a wise opinion.

Infected root canal treated tooth

If the tooth is causing extreme pain, then you can get it removed now only. If the pain in tooth is not that much, then you can delay the tooth extraction. You can get tooth extraction before the trip. The extraction socket will heal in 7-8days. if you don't want to get the tooth extracted, then you can get it extracted after your vacation. Avoid taking anything from that side of the mouth and maintain good oral hygiene to avoid secondary infections. You can do warm saline rinses and can take antibiotics after consulting your dentist.
