Agony in gums/roots dentist wont help

Had a tooth filled 3 times its deep first 2 times was not done right 3rd time its been month now and sensative is alot better however, but past week ive been having on and off throbbing pain in the gums above it, the gums are SO tender to touch and hurts to press the hard root you can feel. had x ray done they said theres nothing showing to why you are getting such pains, its like they dont beleive me, any idea what it could be or what they could be missing.
